Accountability Part 1
I would first like to look at the word accountability and its definition.
Definition of accountability
- : the quality or state of being accountable; especially : an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one’s actions – merriam-webster
Although we have responsibilities to others, we are primarily accountable to God. It is before him that we stand, and to him that one day we must give an account. We should not therefore rate human opinion too highly, becoming depressed when criticized and elated when flattered. ~ John R. W. Stott
- This would be our first thought on Accountability: Our responsibility to God, as the quote above states, we will all one day give an account to God.
Romans 14:11 (KJV) 11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
Romans 2:6 (KJV) 6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
There are many other scriptures in the Bible about who we are first accountable too. For me this is the most important aspect of life is to be accountable to the Lord. The fantastic part to this is the Lord has given to each of us His Only Son: John 3:16 (KJV) 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
What this means that we can spend eternal life with Him, if we confess our sins and accept Jesus as the only way to Heaven, being without sin He died for us and rose from the dead and PAID our sin debt. He truly is the Son of God.
- What we do with our accountability for our own sin is up to each and every one of us.
- Next part to our accountability to the Lord is how we live for him.
“It is not only what we do, but also what we do not do, this is what makes us accountable.” ~Michael Counts
